DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, Special Railroad King, 17J, Model 1883, 18S, 14K gold original BWCCo HC with weighted band having lead visible behind case springs, gold cuvette, "American Waltham Watch Co. For R.R. Service" marked fancy white enamel SS impressed dial with very attractive gold foil decoration, fancy gilt Louis XV style hands, SW-LS, gilt mvt screws and regulator assembly, ornate nickel damascene, s#7712557. Gross weight of assembled watch 97.7 dwt (152.0 g). The very attractive fancy dial of this example is quite scarce, as the Waltham Special Railroad King is much more often seen with an unadorned white enamel double-sunk dial with this same "American Waltham Watch Co. For R.R. Service" signature.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, few micro-fine scratches; dial with perimeter hl from below 11 to edge at 12, patched edge chip under bezel between 11 and 12; nearly mint hands; case shows hardly any wear, ding or shallow dent to upper left of front, some dings to rear perimeter, excellent engine turning detail, case front and rear open somewhat short of 90 degrees (to approximately 80 degrees); tight bow, crown shows very little wear; clean plastic crystal.
